Each year, Children’s Week FloridaTM presents the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Advocacy Award to a Floridian who has dedicated time and energy working as an advocate on behalf of statewide issues affecting the status and well-being of children, youth, and families, and who has engaged others to promote policies and/or programs benefiting those most in need. The annual award recipient may have a record of service in a professional and/or voluntary capacity.

This 2023 Chiles Advocacy Award recipient will be honored on Monday, March 27, 2023, during the Children’s Week FloridaTM Advocacy Dinner and Awards Ceremony. The award recipient will also be invited to participate in Children’s Week FloridaTM events across the week, helping to inspire young minds and the next generation of advocates. This includes Children’s Day at the Capitol (March 28) and Teen Thursday (March 30).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Anyone can submit a nomination; you may nominate yourself.
  • Nominees must have demonstrated a commitment to advocating for public policies that improve the lives of Florida’s children, youth, and their families.
  • Nominees must represent the highest standards of professionalism and be well recognized as a leader in Florida’s efforts to address children, youth, and family issues.

All nominations will be reviewed by the Children’s Week FloridaTM Advocacy Awards Committee, a volunteer peer review group consisting of previous Chiles Advocacy Award winners, community partners, and other advocates. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, January 13, 2023.
